Preparation
With my thesis project approved, the next step was securing the vendor booth. I chose the Copper level sponsorship because it would give me a full size booth and a spot on the sponsor’s lists. I wasn’t able to get the dimensions of the booth from the American Herbalist Guild (AHG). So I reached out to the Conference center, explained my mission, and decided it would be best to reserve the largest space available.
Here is the listing that appeared on the AHG website:
Since the conference would host more people than one person could treat in the allotted time, I decided to share the opportunity. After all, the booth was a terrific chance for fellow Acutonics® students to gain clinic hours, and for seasoned practitioners to network. To get the word out, my advisor graciously included an announcement in the Acutonics August 2022 newsletter!
The next priority was coming up with the content to share at the event. First and foremost was the menu of mini treatments. This would be vital because it was Acutonics in action. The protocols had to deliver the most benefit within the constraints of a limited time and a conference setting (sitting in a chair). I came up with a list of six classic protocols. With the savvy advice from my mentor, Ellen Franklin, PhD., I tweaked the treatments and came up with appropriate and congruent names and explanations. Then, I took advantage of my martial arts school setting to practice and refine these treatments and establish realistic times, ergonomic positioning, and client comfort. Finally, I created a menu for the clients and a guide for the practitioners. Following is the menu.
Furthermore, I created two Planet to Plant correspondence charts to demonstrate to the attendees how aligned and complimentary the Acutonics philosophies are with the herbal medicine. I primarily drew from knowledge I learned from studying Medical Astrology with Dr. Will Morris, from his book Cycles in Medical Astrology and from Culpepper’s Complete Herbal: Illustrated and Annotated Edition by Nicholas Culpepper. These charts are below:
With the sharable content confirmed, I turned my energies to the signage and presentation of the booth. Once again my Advisor was invaluable in helping select the appropriate signs and providing access to Acutonics resources. In addition to the big signs, I also included the three main Acutonics books, No Place Like Ohm, From Galaxies to Cells and Acutonics for Dog and Cats as additional information and lovely decorations. To complete the presentation were the center pieces of tuning forks and chimes, along with singing bowls and tingshas. As a final piece, I ordered a tablecloth with the Acutonics logo. The sign images are below.
As a final act to get more exposure, my mentor invited me to submit a student profile for the September newsletter. It was a great honor and a chance to reflect on the journey. Below is an excerpt. The full profile can be seen here.
Student Profile, Cody Foor, Acutonics® Student Intern Ellen F. Franklin, PhD Cody has a passion for learning and an ability to achieve profound levels of understanding with this work. He is creative with his treatment planning, heart centered, and always has a sparkle in his eyes. It has been an honor and delight to be one of Cody’s teachers. I look forward to what the future brings for Cody! —Theresa Lee Morris
Cody Foor’s love of Martial Arts and his desire to enhance his capabilities as a healer led him to a deep exploration of the underlying theories and practices of Taoism, Buddhism, Yin Yang theories and the I Ching. His entry into Acutonics was through Will Morris’s Medical Astrology Course. Meeting Will and Theresa Lee Morris and learning about Acutonics, he was immediately hooked. He began his studies in September of 2021 and by May of 2022 he completed all of his core courses, multiple electives, the majority of his clinic hours and is working on his thesis now. His passion for Acutonics and the healing arts shines through.
When Cody approached me with his thesis idea, to bring Acutonics to the Herbalist Guild, and measure the outcomes, I was impressed with his vision for this event, and agreed to work with him as his mentor. Although, Acutonics has exhibited at countless conferences since its founding, nearly 25 years ago, we had never attended the Herbalist Guild Conference. Not only had Cody identified an innovate way to demonstrate his knowledge of Acutonics, but he clearly articulated ways to share this medicine with other professionals, many of whom may not be familiar with this sound medicine modality.
In the weeks leading up to the conference, the final preparation task wrapped up nicely. The menu and content were approved, the signs for the booth were printed, and I received a generous shipment of brand new brochures! I also secured the help of another Acutonics student practitioner for the busiest day, Saturday. So on the morning of Thursday, October 20, I packed up the car and headed to Bethesda, MD.
To be continued in Part 3..
