So often with health and dieting the focus is on what you take out. While it is true that inflammatory foods with lots of sugar are important to remove, what you ADD to your diet is just as important. Some of the most important things to add are: water, organ meat, sea vegetables, seafood and a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Now I know that a certain percentage of you mentally checked out when I mentioned organ meat, but it doesn’t have to be beef liver cooked with onions (which might be the nastiest thing I have ever eaten). Chicken livers are much more mild tasting, and spiced right and air fried they are amazing. If you just cannot stomach organ meat, look into supplementing with it. What’s important here is that you find organ meat that is organic and without any unnecessary fillers or binders. Organ meat is rich in choline, which is basically non existent in the standard American diet, and an essential nutrient for your brain, muscles, and your liver! It’s also an amazing source for fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), peptides, and more! Animal liver is great for human livers. Animal kidneys are great for human kidneys. Etc, etc!
Seafood that is line caught and not farmed is also so full of vitamins and minerals and essential fatty acids. Many people worry about the mercury in seafood. But, one of natures miracles is that wild fish tend to have very high levels of selenium, which protects you from the harmful effects of heavy metals including mercury. For the absolute best bang for your buck health wise, focus on sardines, shellfish, salmon and trout. If you are looking for an amazing source of essential fatty acids and B12, look no further!
Sea vegetables are also packed with good for you ingredients that are often missing in our diet. I add dulse to my smoothies but also take a daily supplement that contains spirulina and chlorella which are also great for binding to heavy metals in your body. They are also fantastic sources of fiber and good for building and maintaining a strong gut. They are an excellent source of potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and iodine as well as another awesome source of Omega 3s!
Now back to the first addition, water. This is low hanging fruit, but it is so important. Your body is mostly water and dehydration causes everything from headaches to dry skin to fatigue and weight retention. Aim to consume half your body weight in oz. So if you weight 100 pounds, drink 50 oz and so on. Ideally add minerals to your water so you get the most bang for your buck. I personally love ReMyte Mineral Solution because it covers all the bases.

We are at the beginning of a new year so welcome it with some changes to your mindset and habits. It takes 3 weeks to solidify a new habit. Let your new habit this year be to eat foods that nourish you and help you to be the best version of yourself. Pick one new food to add at a time or go crazy and add in a bunch of new foods at once. Try to eat them daily for 3 weeks and track any differences you may feel. You will find that after 3 weeks, you will actually start craving those new foods. If you utilize this advice I’d love to hear how it works out in the comments.
